When an application doesn’t fit a standard product line, that’s exactly the kind of problem Johnson’s in-house engineering team likes to solve. A few examples of custom solutions built for clients across very different industries:

• Energy — Google/Makani Power: A brake used to control tension on the tether of a wind-powered, high-altitude control system for an energy kite.
• Entertainment — Cirque du Soleil: A rotating stage fitted with Johnson DS brakes.
• Navy — U.S. Navy: Nuclear cranes and submarines fitted with CX DC magnet disc brakes, used in ship-to-shore crane systems for loading equipment onto ships and submarines.
• Aerospace — NASA: The Solid Motor Assembly and Readiness Facility (SMARF), served by a 500-tonne lift capacity crane.
