Coal Industry

In material handling, stackers, reclaimers, and combination stacker reclaimers are used to move and re-position bulk materials such as coal and iron ore efficiently. This rail-mounted equipment moves in one direction and typically has a boom that raises or lowers for accurate positioning — a stacker is loaded via dump truck or tractor and uses a conveyor belt to build a systematic pile of material, while a reclaimer scoops material back up for repositioning. One example stacker reclaimer in service moves up to 6,500 tonnes/hour, servicing approximately 2.5 million tonnes of coal.

Braking options for a stacker or reclaimer include high-speed brakes on the conveyor/bucket system, plus rail clamps or wheel brakes for stopping or holding the system in a static position when high winds arise. Configurations are available in explosion-proof or non-explosion-proof, and electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic actuation.
